The No on SB 56 effort is a citizen-driven, grass-roots, non-partisan campaign to give voters a chance to say no to government overreach and re-criminalizing cannabis, no to closing 6,000 small businesses and eliminating thousands of jobs, no to slapping voters in the face who overwhelmingly supported making cannabis legal in 2023, and no to denying consumers their rights.
We wanted to communicate directly with you about our plan to collect 250,000 signatures to put the No on SB 56 before voters in November, 2026.
Approval of Petition Language
On Tuesday, February 3, in the late afternoon, the Ohio Attorney General approved our petition language. In the early evening, the Ohio Secretary of State certified that our petition was submitted with a valid number of signatures and contained an accurate copy of SB 56 as required by law. After obtaining both certifications, circulators could begin collection.
Printing of Petition Booklets
As soon as we had language finalized and the signatures certified, we began printing the petition booklets the very next day, Wednesday, February 4. These are the booklets needed to start collecting 250,000 valid signatures in 44 of Ohio’s 88 counties to put the No on SB 56 vote before Ohioans in November 2026.
Printing the number of booklets needed is an expensive and time-consuming effort because:
- Each booklet must contain the entire petition summary and a copy of Senate Bill 56.
- Each booklet must contain printed sheets of signature lines.
- This resulted in a combined total of 42 pages per booklet.
- Signatures collected must be for a designated county, meaning you cannot include signatures from voters in more than one county for each booklet.
Collecting signatures
The requirement for making the ballot is 250,000 valid signatures coming from at least 44 of Ohio’s 88 counties. We have less than 40 days to collect the signatures. To do so, we need to deploy a paid circulation team across the 44 counties because they will collect the bulk of our signatures.
We are going to train and deploy as many volunteers as we can to supplement the signatures being collected by the paid circulators.
Training for Volunteer Signature Collectors
We are scheduling training sessions with volunteer circulators to begin deploying them. If you want to be trained to collect signatures, please go to noonsb56.com and volunteer.
When you sign up, we will be in touch with you to get you trained at our regularly scheduled training sessions. We are creating a powerpoint to help you understand the process. It is important to follow the rules or your signatures will not be counted.
Collection Sites
We are working with allies and businesses to set up collection sites for supporters to visit and sign a petition on designated days during designated times.
If you want your place of business to be a designated signing site, then please to go noonsb56.com and sign up your site and someone from the campaign will be in touch with you to schedule.
We will be posting information about times and locations where supporters can sign the No on SB 56 petitions on our website and our social media pages.
Contributions
Please go to noonsb56.com and contribute whatever you can to help us in our No on SB 56 campaign.
We appreciate everyone’s support and patience. We are working as quickly as we can to print booklets, deploy our professional signature collection team, train our volunteers and establish times with allies and partners for places for voters to sign.
To get involved, go to noonsb56.com, volunteer to collect signatures or as a business, contribute to our campaign. Together, we’re going to stop this government overreach, this attack on consumer rights and the will of Ohio voters, and keep 6,000 small businesses open and workers working for consumer convenience.
